A Case Report of Primary Hepatoma in Childhood

Abstract
The author observed a four-year-old orphan boy who was admitted to the Pusan Children¢¥s Charity Hospital with the condition of severe malnutrition and dehydration due to diarrhea, but died after two days hospitalization.
The post-mortem examination of the abdomen in this case disclosed a very large soft tumor of brownish reddish color in the liver relatively well encapsulated by fibrous tissue.
Clinically, the author made the diagnosis of neuroblastoma and removed the right lobe of the liver and referred it to the Department of Pathology of the Pusan National University Medical School for pathohistological studies.
The diagnosis was confirmed as "Primary Hepatoma" composed of relatively well-differentiated diffuse cancer cells throughout the liver. The tendency of the rarefaction of the cells was so marked as to produce a picture resembling the coils of the adrenal cortex. The central protion of the tumor showed marked necrosis and hemorrhages.
